Khimsar Sand Dunes Village nestles at the heart of the seven "Akla" dunes and adjoins a 60-acre lake. It is accessible by jeep, camel or horse. Surrounded by rolling sand dunes this remote and rural village is a haven of total tranquility and peace interrupted only by the whisper of sifting sands wafting on the desert winds and occasionally the ducks, geese and wild birds that flock to the oasis.

Accommodation

The village comprises a cluster of 16 huts that face the oases. Each has a courtyard ensuring total privacy and is styled on the local village huts known as 'dhanis', with a 17ft thatched grass dome.

These spacious 300 sq ft huts are finished in a rustic style with mud plastered walls. There are open air showers with running hot and cold water. Solar power is extensively used in this eco-friendly village.

Khimsar, roughly halway between Jodhpur and Bikaner, is on the edge of the Thar desert and subject to the extremes of the desert climate. The Fort itself though is a green haven that keeps the inhospitable desert at bay.

Khimsar is conveniently placed for visits to the Jain Temples at Osian, Nagaur Fort, and the Rat Temple at Deshnoke. Jeep safaris can also be made to the Blackbuck Reserve.
